Effects of Art Therapy Program on Self-Expression, Social Skills and Quality of Life for Adults with Developmental Disabilities

Abstract

|
The purpose is to study the effect of group art therapy on social skills, and quality of life of adults with developmental disabilities. Thirty adults with developmental disabilities who used welfare facilities for the disabled who consented to art therapy were included. Fifteen subjects were randomly assigned to the experimental group and the control group. The testing period was from August to November 2020, and implemented eight sessions of the art therapy program once a week. The effectiveness of self-expression of the frequency was analyzed using a checklist. In addition, the effects of social skills and quality of life were independently t-tested using the SPSS 23 program for the average of the two groups. As a result of the analysis, The experimental group that treated with art therapy had a meaningful effect on social skills than the control group. The quality of life in the experimental group was higher than that of the control group. It confirmed that the art group therapy for adults with developmental disabilities effectively improved social skills and quality of life, and developmental rehabilitation treatment.
